This is a fun memory of the “Show Her the Money” screening at Chapman University, along with a few other 1MillionCups friends. I met Cathleen through 1MC and she has been a dear friend since, as we worked on various projects related to social entrepreneurship.

I admire her travel stories and would love to join her on some of her upcoming trips (Antarctica?). She has been a great mentor when I need guidance and one of the real changemakers in OC.

I am beyond lucky to call Cathleen my friend! I think we first met through 1 Million Cups, and over the years, we’ve shared so many adventures. The photos (huge thanks to Richard Fleming!) were taken at Pelican Hill after an unforgettable night. We had all attended an event at the Paul Merage School of Business, where we met an amazing group of Master’s students from Europe. One thing led to another, and we ended up at Pelican Hill Resort for dinner. Thanks to Cathleen’s gift for greatt conversations, we talked and laughed until the restaurant literally closed around us. In my family, we call that being “the last of the bitter-enders,” and trust me, that wasn’t the only time Cathleen and I shut a place down!

Within our 1 Million Cups group, we’ve built friendships that have lasted for years. Throughout the pandemic, our Wednesday morning meetings became a ritual, and Cathleen’s warmth and humor absolutely helped keep me sane. Living alone during that time had some tough challenges, and there were days when her friendly smile felt like a true lifeline.

We’ve also teamed up on innovation projects for the Community College and beyond, and I can say without hesitation—she is a dream to work with! I’m going to miss those projects, but I have no doubt I’ll still get her expert kibbitzing from time to time.

Thankfully, retirement doesn’t mean Cathleen is disappearing entirely—although with her love of travel, I wouldn’t be surprised if I get texts from her while she’s riding a camel or floating in a hot air balloon.

Cathleen, I wish you endless joy, adventure, and fun in this exciting next chapter! You deserve every bit of it!
