Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, "A Quiet Place: Day One" is an apocalyptic horror prequel that expands the terrifying world established in the hit "A Quiet Place" films. The $80 million Paramount Pictures production serves as both an origin story for the deadly alien invasion and a gripping survival thriller set in the chaos of New York City on the first day of an extraterrestrial invasion. Leading the ensemble cast is Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o (known for "12 Years a Slave," "Black Panther") as Sam, a woman forced to navigate the sudden otherworldly threat during what began as a routine trip to the city. She's joined by rising star Joseph Quinn ("Stranger Things") as Eric, who teams up with Sam to try to survive the onslaught. Other key roles include Alex Wolff ("Hereditary") as Reuben and Djimon Hounsou ("Guardians of the Galaxy") reprising his character from "A Quiet Place Part II." The story follows Sam and Eric as they fight to survive the arrival of the terrifying creatures, whose heightened auditory senses make even the slightest noise deadly. As the aliens begin their rapid spread across the city, Sam and Eric must rely on each other and their wits to escape the mounting pandemonium and bloodshed happening all around them. An interesting fact is that while not directly involving characters from the first two films, "A Quiet Place: Day One" was conceived from an original story idea by John Krasinski, who wrote and directed the hit "A Quiet Place" (2018). Krasinski remains involved as a producer alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. Originally slated for a March 2023 release, the prequel release date was changed to June 28, 2024. Early footage teases an intense, larger-scale invasion narrative that explores the creatures' origins while delivering thrilling set pieces amidst the urban chaos.
