After Dad finishes reading Hansel and Gretel to the kids, Bingo wonders if fairy tales are real. Dad smiles and decides to share a true story from his childhood with his brother, Stripe. This story takes place in the fun and wild 80s. In the past, Dad liked to tease Stripe because he couldn’t do a cool bike skid. Dad thought it was funny, but Stripe didn’t like it at all. One time during a holiday, Dad and his friends played a game with Bandit. They put him under a ‘jinx,’ which meant he couldn’t speak until someone said his name. To teach Bandit a lesson, everyone decided not to say his name for the entire day. Bandit felt frustrated and confused because he wanted to talk. The whole day went by, and no one would help him. Finally, a special person named Chilli showed up. She was dressed as a Princess, and when she said “Bandit,” he was free from the jinx. Dad laughs as he tells the story, but Mum remembers it differently. She thinks Bandit was just being silly and that he didn’t really need help. This story shows how fun and tricky life can be when growing up. It reminds everyone that even if fairy tales aren’t real, the adventures we have in our lives can be just as exciting!
