The Elf Who Gave Santa’s Sleigh Its Glow

At the North Pole, the elves were busier than ever. With Christmas Eve just days away, toys needed packing, cookies needed baking, and Santa’s sleigh needed shining. For one young elf named Sparkle, this Christmas was extra special—it was his first big North Pole assignment!

Sparkle was smaller than most elves, with a wild tuft of red hair and ears that wiggled when he was excited (which was almost all the time). He loved polishing things: ornaments, jingle bells, and even reindeer antlers. So when Santa himself handed him the shining rag and bottle of magic polish, Sparkle could hardly believe his ears.

“Sparkle,” Santa said with a wink, “your job is to make my sleigh shine so brightly that it lights up the whole night sky!”

Sparkle did an excited little jump and then said. “You can count on me, Santa!”

He rushed to the Sleigh Garage, where Santa’s enormous red sleigh sat parked. Its golden runners gleamed faintly, and the ruby-red paint shimmered like the first star on a winter night. But Sparkle knew he could make it shine more.

“This sleigh has to sparkle like never before,” he said, sliding his hand along the side of the amazing sleigh.

Then, Sparkle got to work, spraying the magic polish onto the sleigh. It smelled like cinnamon and sugar, which made Sparkle’s nose twitch. “What a lovely scent,” he thought. He buffed the sleigh’s runners until they shone like a full Christmas moon. He polished the red panels until he could see his face grinning back at him. Even as the sleigh glowed as though it were made of rubies, Sparkled still thought something was missing.

“Hmm,” Sparkle muttered, tapping his chin. “It’s shiny, but it doesn’t wow.”

That’s when he got an idea. Racing back to the workshop, he grabbed a bag of glitter from the craft room. Not just any glitter—enchanted glitter that sparkled even in the dark.

“This will be perfect!” he said, dumping a handful onto the sleigh.

The glitter sparkled beautifully, but then… Sparkle accidentally sneezed—ACHOO!—sending a cloud of glitter everywhere. When the dust settled, the sleigh wasn’t just shiny… it glowed! It glittered! It sparkled like a disco ball on Christmas morning.

“Oh no,” Sparkle said, wide-eyed. “Maybe I used too much.”

Just then, Santa walked in, rubbing his belly after a snack of cookies and milk. He was humming a jolly tune, but when he saw the sleigh, Santa stopped in mid-step. His eyes twinkled but his face was unreadable.

“Uh… Santa?” Sparkle squeaked. “Do you like it?”

Santa tilted his head. “It’s certainly… noticeable.”

The head elf, Grumble, marched in, his clipboard clutched tightly. “What in the tinsel happened here?” he barked. “The sleigh looks like it’s ready for a dance party instead of Christmas deliveries!”

“I just wanted it to shine extra bright,” Sparkle said, wringing his hands and looking nervously at his jingle-belled shoes..

Grumble frowned, but Santa burst into laughter. “I think it’s wonderful!” he boomed. “The children will see this sleigh coming from miles away!”

Sparkle’s ears stopped drooping and started wiggling again. “Really? You’re not mad?” He looked up at Santa, feeling hopeful.

“Not at all,” Santa said smiling down at the little elf. “You gave it a little extra holiday magic!”

Grumble grumbled again (which was normal for him), but even he couldn’t stop cracking a tiny smile. “Just don’t sneeze on the glitter next time,” he muttered.

On Christmas Eve, as the reindeer were hitched to the sleigh, Sparkle stood proudly to the side. The sleigh sparkled brighter than the stars above. When Santa climbed aboard, he winked at Sparkle.

“Thanks to you, my boy, the whole world will know I’m coming!”

As the sleigh lifted into the air, it left a trail of glittery stardust behind it. Sparkle watched it disappear into the night, his heart bursting with pride.

From that Christmas on, Santa’s sleigh always sparkled with that special glittery stardust, and every elf knew it was because of Sparkle—the elf who gave the sleigh its glow.
