- Safety (2 points): When the defense tackles the offensive player in their own end zone.

- If not, the other team gets the ball.
- Fumble: When a player holding the ball drops it or loses control before being tackled or scoring. The ball is then considered “live,” meaning either team can recover it to gain possession.
- Line of Scrimmage: The starting point of each play.
- Pass: Throwing the ball to another player.
- Run: Carrying the ball forward.
- Sack: When a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage while the quarterback is attempting to pass the ball. This results in a loss of yardage for the offense.
- Snap: The action of passing the ball backward to the quarterback to start the play.
- Tackle: Bringing down the player with the ball.
Common Penalties
- Offside: A player crosses the line of scrimmage before the play starts.
- Holding: Illegally grabbing an opponent.
- Pass Interference: Preventing a receiver from catching the ball unfairly.
Tips for Watching a Football Game
- Follow the Ball: Watch where the ball goes during each play.
- Look for the Yellow Line: This line (on TV) shows how far the offense needs to go for a first down.
- Cheer for Big Plays: Look out for touchdowns, interceptions (defense catches the ball), and sacks (tackling the QB).
